Camp Vista

Approximately 300 children under the age of eighteen live in the Vista Hermosa community. These children fit the profile of those most at-risk for low educational achievement.

The Camp Vista program has served the Vista Hermosa community and surrounding areas since 1993, providing a summer-long educational enrichment program for children entering grades 1-6.

The anticipated outcomes of this program are threefold:

• To sustain and improve students’ reading, writing, and math skills during the summer months to facilitate a positive re-entry into school each Fall.
• To improve language skills of all students, and in particular Spanish-speaking students, by strengthening vocabulary and reading comprehension.
• To provide a safe, fun and engaging experience for children whose parents are working in the fields all summer.
  

Camp Vista provides a unique opportunity for children to strengthen their academic skills and pursue future educational goals. Rather than leave children unsupervised, fun and creative educational programs are offered to tap into the creative potential of each individual and nurture a life-long love for learning.
